Who is this Class For?
This class provides younger students with an introduction to classic children’s books and the basic elements of literature. Students need not be advanced readers, as much of the reading will be done in class.
Class Description:
Cross the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower as a young passenger in search of a new life! Race through the colonies as messages spread during the American Revolution, and witness the birth of a nation in the shadow of the Declaration of Independence. Experience the rapid growth of industry, the cool nights on the prairie, the tension of a divided country, and the global conflicts that reshape the world—culminating in the trials and decisions of the wars that shook the foundations of our world.
This year’s focus will be American, Modern, and Postmodern World History, exploring key events, influential figures, and the everyday lives of people through stories, journals, and historical writing. We intend to cover the war for independence, the Goldrush, the Louisiana Purchase, the Civil War, and WWI & WWII.
Students will uncover the evolving story of a nation through interactive activities, creative projects, and engaging narratives designed to bring history to life through the lens of high-stakes fiction and non-fiction literature.
