Who is this Class For?
This class provides younger students with an introduction to classic children’s books and the basic elements of literature. Students need not be advanced readers, as much of the reading will be done in class.
Class Description:
Immerse your child in the rich tapestry of the Middle Ages with our Medieval Literature and History class. This engaging course will captivate young minds as they explore the foundational elements of literature—plot, character, setting, theme, and style—through timeless medieval texts. Your child will enhance their reading and writing skills, gaining a deeper appreciation for eloquent expression. They’ll learn about the code of chivalry, understanding how honor and bravery from the past resonate in today’s world. Creativity will flourish as they craft their own stories inspired by legendary tales. Moreover, the course offers a unique opportunity for spiritual growth, encouraging students to recognize God as the ultimate author of our lives. Enroll your child in this enriching experience, where the stories of the past will inspire their present and shape their future.
Students will:
- Learn to identify the 5 basic elements of literature
- Grow in their reading and writing abilities
- Play games and do activities that teach and increase understanding about the books we are reading
- Gain an understanding of historical and modern chivalry
- Unlock their creativity through storytelling
- Engage in creative projects and crafts which help illustrate the stories and history we are studying
• Grow in their understanding of God as the Author of our stories the books we are reading.
Homework:
Students will be asked to bring in their favorite book(s) and give a short oral or written report at certain times throughout the year. We will also be doing simple writing exercises in class, which students may take home to finish or revise for later use.
